Although we had previously honeymooned in Fiji on our honeymoon in 1983 and Brian had been to Europe a couple of times predominantly for work, we started doing a bit of travelling as a family back in 2005.
Travelling was something we both wanted to do but timing & circumstances never seemed to coincide till 2005. Due to Brian’s two trips to Europe in which he was able to mix business with pleasure the travel bug had already taken hold of him, awaiting an opportunity to infect the rest of the family.
Our first big trip abroad was to take us away from home for a month and with Molly now 8 years old it was a great opportunity to broaden her horizons as well.
Our trip took us to Yellowstone National Park, Canada for Brian’s brother Matthew’s wedding, back to the USA to Las Vegas & Disneyland, where we arranged to meet up with Alan & Di Hee and then on to Tahiti for a well earned relax before heading home.
The travel bug had sunk it’s teeth in well & truly!
2006 saw us really get into the swing of things with two trips overseas.
In March after five days in Singapore for work Brian was joined there by Belinda and Alan & Di Hee for five days of complete fun & laughter.
Later that year saw us head off to Europe for a month. We started off doing the usual touristy things in London before getting out a bit further to Bath & Oxford. We then flew to Paris, which was Belinda’s choice and one which changed Brian’s preconceptions. A fantastic city, with the exception of Euro Disney (stick to the originals), with a mix of history, culture and a real vibrancy.
We then headed to the French riviera staying at historic Eze, just outside of Nice. Picking up a car in Nice we proceeded to travel into Italy, staying in Florence and as the saying goes “all roads lead to Rome”.
A stop off in Dubai rounded out a great trip.
2007 saw us off to Fiji for an island holiday on Treasure Island. Our first visit back to the island since our honeymoon in 1983.
With Molly now 9 years old we were left “orphaned” by her as she just loved her days & into the nights at the kids club.
Not to be outdone we had a great time relaxing, snorkeling, parasailing and just having a great time.
2008 saw us travel to the USA & Thailand for four weeks & hook up with the Hee’s yet again overseas.
We met up with Alan & Di at San Francisco airport where we both arrived within 20 minutes of each other.
We spent 5 days doing the touristy Frisco things including Fishermans Wharf, Alcatraz, China Town, Cable Car rides & Museum, Coyt Tower, Golden Gate bridge & Muir Woods.
From there we flew to Orlando, Florida to do the drive down to Key West & back up to Orlando to Disney World before heading off to Thailand for a different ending to the holiday.
2010 saw us visit Italy again for three weeks, one of our most favourite countries in the world.
Arriving in Rome we drove down to the Amalfi coast for four days which is just a magnificent part of the world.
From there we traveled across to Assissi, up to Padua across to Turin for three days each, then down to Florence & San Gimignano in Tuscany for a couple of days each, finishing off with four days in Rome.
From 2011 to 2015 we visited Vanuatu five times.
Having found our ultimate chill out place, Paradise Cove Resort, we found it hard not to go back to the best snorkeling & food in Port Vila. During our trip in 2012 we visited Tanna Island to go to Mt. Yasur one of the most active and accessible volcanoes in the world.
This is a must for anyone who can get there as it is one of the most amazing experiences to stand on the top of a volcano while it is exploding (safely believe it or not), although there was a moment or two when you gave your situation a bit more thought.
In 2015 Brian & Molly completed their open water SCUBA diving certificate in Vanuatu.
2016 saw Brian & Belinda travel to Italy with Tim & Ann Maree Fleming.
Our travels took us to Sicily for the first time, staying 5 nights each in Ortigia & Taormina. It whetted our appetite for us to promise to return in the not too distant future. We put the car on the ferry at Messina to the mainland & worked our way across & up in the lesser traveled parts of mainland Italy till we reached our final port of call, Rome, once more.
A coupe of trips in 2018, one local to Uluru & Kings Canyon, the other to Malta & Sicily with Tim & Annie again made for a very enjoyable year.
After retirement for both Brian & Belinda, 2019 once again was busy with a number of local & interstate trips coupled with a trip to Sri Lanka & a wind down later in the year at our favourite resort, Paradise Cove in Vanuatu with Molly & her boyfriend Chris.
2020 saw Brian & Belinda get back to Yellowstone National Park, this time in January in the snow. Once again with Alan & Di Hee Yellowstone in the snow was an experience of a lifetime with amazing scenery, thermal activity and best of all an abundance of wildlife.
COVID – that dreaded word.
After being cloistered away from the rest of the world for nearly 2 years we were at long last allowed to travel again.
In December 2021 Brian & Belinda were on the first flight to Fiji after it re-opened.
There followed a busy year in 2022 with 6 weeks on the road in the USA with Alan & Di Hee travelling through Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, Colorado, Arizona and back up through southern Utah. A great trip with Yellowstone one of many but our favourite highlight.
After getting home we were packing again 6 weeks later. With the twice postponed wedding of Mitch Clarke & Katie Jeanes re-scheduled for early September we “had to” build a trip around it. Once again Alan & Di set out with us for the first part of our trip to Farewell Harbour and Alaska. We then met up with Tim & Ann Fleming to travel to the Rockies and back to Salt Spring Island via the Okanagan Wine Region & Whistler for the wedding.
After the wedding we caught up with Alan & Di again to travel up to the Yukon to see the Aurora Borealis before heading home.
2023 was the year we would eventually get to Africa. In August we took off for an 18 night safari taking in a number of camps in Botswana then on to a few destinations in Zimbabwe including Victoria Falls.
The best trip we have ever done. A seamless trip of the highest quality we could not have asked for more.

Brian, Tim Here mate, Darren’s neighbour, just a short message from a fellow photographer that i am now following your exploits.
